It is no secret that the environmental state of our planet has been steadily declining over the past several years. Cries of concern have arisen from all four corners of the Earth in regards to what can be done to salvage our planet’s future from further harm. For those that find themselves wrapped up in such concerns – and possess the need to take an active role in the Earth’s preservation – an organization called the Earthwatch Institute provides an opportunity to learn more about eco-sciences. The Institute is an international non-profit organization that was founded in 1971. It allows ordinary people around the world with no previous experience in the scientific world (professional or otherwise) to join research teams and collect data in areas such as wildlife conservation, marine science, and rainforest ecology.
The Earthwatch Institute hosts expedition programs that take place on all seven of the world’s continents. The Institute also provides family, community, and alumni programs; these trips provide an excellent opportunity for creating strong bonds with loved ones. While some of the expeditions may be more vigorous than others, the program does not have a maximum age limit and allows for senior citizens to make important contributions to the world we live in. In addition, the course provides extensive accommodations for dietary and medical conditions, further broadening the range of volunteers.
