Whether you want to sell your home now, are planning for the future, there are a few ways to add value to your home.
Paint. The easiest and possible cheapest way to improve the appearance of your home is through paint, both inside and out. If you’re planning on selling your home, colors should be neutral that will appeal to the largest number of people.
New Appliances. Nothing can be more disheartening than old appliances. With the new energy star rating that are on many appliances, you may pay for the appliance, such as a refrigerator with your energy savings.
Light fixtures. When was the last time you looked up? Most of us get used to those old, tired light fixtures. If your light fixtures are over twenty years old, consider an update.
Remodel the bathroom. Besides the kitchen, the bathroom is the most important room to sell the home. No one wants to buy a home with a dated bathroom, especially if it has rust stains, peeling paint or loose tiles.
Declutter. If you’ve lived in your home for a long time, you probably have an excess of ‘stuff.’ Start now going through your possessions. Start with a closet, chest or spare bedroom to get motivated. Look at your possession with a critical eye. If they’ve been in storage for longer than a year, ask yourself why you keep it. Many people will answer, “I may need it later.” But will you, really? Start giving your legacy items to your children. If you wait until you’re in your eighties, your children will be in their sixties and will be getting rid of their own stuff.
Whether you are getting ready to sell your house soon, or waiting until later, there are a few cost effective, simple things you can do to add value to your home.
