As baby boomers reach retirement age, they are redefining fun activities for adults. While the traditional retirement activities of golf and fishing are still enjoyed by many, there are changes from previous generations. For example, have you seen the average age of the Harley driver? Most that I see have gray hair and beards.

This weekend, my husband and I went jeeping with friends. The age range was from fifty to late sixties. As I watched four of the guys move huge boulders in our way, it occurred to me that the new retirees are embracing physical and mental challenges.

Whether it’s a fear or denial of getting older, baby boomers are going to do the things they want to do until they are not either physically or mentally able to continue.

It’s not unusual to still see oldsters on ski slopes, mountain climbing, as well as other physically demanding activities. I have friends who have bicycled through Europe in retirement.

Age is no longer a barrier to doing fun activities for adults. In fact, my husband and go to the swimming pool every day. I watch moms and dads bring their kids and sit on the sidelines. But, older people are the ones getting in the water.

Do you want to sail or build the boat? Do you want to race cars, rock climb, or scuba dive? Then jump on board with the other retirement age baby boomers. Make sure you wear the appropriate safety equipment and follow the proper procedures.

We know that age isn’t a barrier for fun activities for adults. Get out there and have a good time.
