In the war of dog people versus cat people, where do you fall? A recent poll by hunch.com looked at the preferences of people for cats or dogs and then compared the findings with lifestyle and personality information.
Would you believe that dog people tend to be more extroverted, conscientious and agreeable? Cat people are more neurotic, but more ‘open’ creatively and philosophically. Cat people are more nontraditional than dog people. Dog owners tend to have more dominating personalities than cat people. However, cat owners are more trusting than dog people.
In the battle between dog and cat people, dog people outnumber cat owners. While there are more cat pets than dogs in the US, 39% of households own canines, compared to 34% who own felines. In an associated poll, 74% of people said they liked dogs a lot, but only 41% felt the same about cats. Fifteen percent of people said they hated cats a lot, while on 2% responded that way about dogs.
Historically, the relationship between dogs and humans has been much different than the one between people and cats. Dogs were bred has working companions. Dogs are pack animals, so it’s natural for them to consider humans as part of their group. Cats on the other hand, are solitary hunters in the wild. They were domesticated to take care of the vermin around the community.
Whether you are a cat or dog person or both, pets have become an important part of our lives. They add companionship and comfort to our lives.
