It’s so tempting to want to share our delicacies with our canine friends. Unfortunately, some of the treats we love the most can be dangerous foods for dogs. Are you concerned about what not to feed your dog? Here are a few foods you should avoid feeding your dog.
Fatty foods. We know that fatty foods aren’t great for human, but did you know they can be dangerous foods for dogs. Turkey skin, pork chops and ham and gravy can cause diarrhea and instill vomiting. In the most severe cases, fatty foods can cause inflammation of the pancreas.
Spicy foods. Foods such as onions, garlic, leeks and chives are not good for dogs. These foods can cause anemia and in the worst case red blood cells rupture.
Alcohol. Dogs shouldn’t drink alcohol. Unfortunately, they will drink most things you give them. Dogs can’t hold their liquor which can cause liver damage. In the worst cases, alcohol poisoning can leave the dog in a coma.
Chocolate. Do you know that just 2 ounces of dark chocolate can make a 50-pound dog severely ill? Drawn to the smell and taste, just like humans, chocolate is one of the most dangerous foods for dogs. The darker and more bitter the chocolate, the worse it is for dogs.
Nuts. Macadamia and other nuts are high in phosphorus which can lead to bladder stones.
Other dangerous foods for dogs include mushrooms, grapes, raisins and currants can, dairy products, raw eggs and raw fish. Of course, it’s also important to keep small bones can cause a laceration as it’s swallowed.
When you love a dog, it’s fun to want to indulge her in an occasional treat. A human treat does not always translate into one for your dog. Be aware of what not to feed your dog for both of your sakes.
